Blood Moon 25.3.10 (2010) was to be Hoyland’s final large-scale piece before his death. His titles, which since the 1960s he has also named with the date of the completion of the work, suggest the essence of the painting. Blood Moon refers to the phenomenon of a total lunar eclipse.
