‘Oxytocin Deity’ is a layered painting exploring the triangulation of the real, symbolic and imaginary — Stein seeks to create ‘different levels of consciousness, so you can have infinite depths of pictorial space working together.’ Stein draws on the power and mystery of feminine qualities, using symbolism to explore a wide range of archetypes in depictions of goddesses and dolls. Oxytocin is a hormone, its main function being to facilitate child birth, often referred to as the love drug.
