Dawood has been experimenting for some time, with the correspondences between nature and technology – and how both are based on geometries, similar to textile production and patterning. In these works, idealised flowers are first created as digital artefacts and then reverse-engineered as hand-painted equivalents, parsing the digital back into the realm of the artist’s hand. There are various layers of pattern, both within the textiles themselves and the layers and geometries applied as paint, before the flowers themselves are overlaid through careful brushwork mimicking the shaders and gradients of virtual representation.
