‘Keeping Company’ (1982) is a large-scale work, its narrative scene echoes the concept of a predella. In this ambitious composition the paint is applied in flat layers referencing frescoes. Breughel was an important influence, which can be seen in this painting exploring the human subject. For this work, Yhap turned her back on the sea, to emphasize the men working rather than the natural beauty of the beach.
