‘Vespers’ is a hand painted ceramic tile work. Tile panelled pieces have been a strand of Stein’s practice since a research trip to Manises, Spain in 2013, where tile artworks line the streets. The tiles also speak to Stein’s Cornwall locale with the pottery of Bernard Leach. Vespers refers to a service of evening prayers. This night-time scene includes a personified moon and a small chalice.
