Four works by Kay WalkingStick are currently on display at The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Four works by Kay WalkingStick, Tepee Form Drawing, 1974, Tears, 1990, 77 - Y, 1977 and 77 - Z, 1977 are currently on display at The Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), Floor 4, Gallery 415.
In a renowned oeuvre spanning seven decades, WalkingStick (b. 1935 Syracuse, NY) draws on formal modernist painterly traditions as well as her indigenous heritage to create works that connect the immediacy of the physical world with the spiritual. Attempting to unify the present with history, her complex works hold tension between representational and abstract imagery.
The works are on display in MoMA's collection Gallery 415, Divided States of America, featuring works spanning the 1960s to the 1980s that confront systems of power and call for revolutionary change.
