Hales is delighted to share that Hew Locke: Passages at Yale Center for British Art is now open, on view through 11 January 2026. This expansive survey exhibition presents three decades of work by the Guyanese British artist renowned for his multimedia explorations of empire and power.
The exhibition brings together distinct bodies of work that examine the historical processes of colonialism through the present-day legacies of global market capitalism, migration, and diaspora. Key themes include public statuary, portraiture, ships, boats, and architecture, expressed through Locke’s constantly evolving use of materials and their associated status and meanings.
Passages will travel to the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio, USA (13 February – 24 May 2026), and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, USA (21 June – 13 September 2026).
