Tuli Mekondjo is included in A Kind of Paradise: Colonial-Era Photography in Contemporary Art at Museum Rietberg, Zurich, Switzerland, opening 16 April – 6 September 2026.
Tuli Mekondjo is a Namibian artist whose richly multifaceted practice considers the sociohistorical context of Namibia as a site through which to re-evaluate ideas around ancestry and identity.
In A Kind of Paradise, a group of twenty artists explore the current state of photographic heritage across four thematic sections—acting as archivists, counterpoints to the colonial gaze, protective forces, and powerful storytellers who make space for hidden narratives. Bringing together photography, textiles, film, and sculpture, the exhibition expands the boundaries of the photographic medium while engaging questions of identity and collective memory.
