Shelley Niro is included in At the Edge, a group exhibition at Shirley Fiterman Art Center through 15 August 2026, bringing together eleven artists and one collective spanning five decades whose practices grapple with the urgencies of their time. Working across performance, video, installation, and mixed media, these artists push against established definitions of art and culture—challenging not only how we see, but how we make meaning.
Niro presents The Shirt (2003), a short film centering on one of consumer culture’s most innocuous objects: the souvenir t-shirt. Facing the camera directly, poised against the American landscape, an Indigenous woman wears a series of graphic tees. Each bears a statement that collectively forms a cumulative account of colonialism, concluding with the punchline: “And all’s I get is this shirt”-before even that is taken away.
The exhibition also features work by Sara Dotterer, Mariah Garnett, Allison Halter, Misha Japanwala, Selena Kimball, Ann Messner, Lorraine O’Grady, Catherine Opie, Zoë Pulley, Carolee Schneemann, and The 181.
