Martin Wilner in "Embracing Modernism: Ten Years of Drawing Acquisitions" at the Morgan Library & Museum

Hales Gallery is pleased to announce Martin Wilner's participation in Embracing Modernism: Ten Years of Drawing Acquisitions at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York.

This exhibition marks the 10th anniversary of the Morgan Library & Museum's pivotal decision to collect and exhibit modern and contemporary drawings. The show proposes a reflection on twentieth-century drawing, looking notably at the characteristics that define its modernity in relation to the historical tradition. It will include more than one hundred drawings created between 1900 and 2013 by artists from Matisse, Mondrian, and Schiele to Pollock, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Twombly, and, more recently. Kippenberger and Dumas. Wilner's contribution will comprise volumes of Journal of Evidence Weekly, an ongoing series of books of drawings which stemmed from a feverish dream in which he dreamt that he was about to miss a deadline for a periodical of that same name. He chose to bring the dream into reality by creating this series, executed entirely while he is in transit, primarily in the subterranean realm of the New York City subway system.
