Hales Gallery is pleased to announce Richard Slee's inclusion in CERAMIX, a touring exhibition presented by the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, the Netherlands, Cité de la céramique in Sèvres, France and la Maison Rouge in Paris, France. The premiere of this exhibition will take place in Maastricht, after which it will travel on to Paris and Sèvres in the spring of 2016.
CERAMIX tells the story of ceramic art from the beginning of last century to the present, with a strong focus on the post-war production of artistic ceramics and the contemporary art of Europe, North America and Asia. A selection of over 250 pieces with works by more than 100 artists, drawn from international museums and collections, are compiled by guest curators Camille Morineau and Lucia Pesapane. The artists selected have used the material in a variety of ways: from paintings and sculptures to installations in mixed techniques. The exhibition is presented both chronologically and thematically, and also includes a number of monograph rooms that have been arranged in close cooperation with the artists in question. It is the first exhibition to focus on the relationship between art and ceramics from the early 20th century to the present.
