Omar Ba in Aqui Africa at SESC Belenzhino, São Paulo

Hales Gallery is pleased to announce Omar Ba's inclusion in Aqui Africa: Contemporary Africa through the Eyes of its Artists at SESC Belenzhino in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This is a new edition of the 2014 exhibition HERE AFRICA.

Concerned with concepts inherent to African history and culture, as identity and heterogeneity, slavery and diaspora, nature and urban organization, tradition and contemporaneity, the curator Adelina von Fürstenberg brings together contemporary African artists from the international artistic scene. Originating from Sub-Saharan Africa, of different generations, some residing in Africa while others in the diasporas, the participating artists of Aqui Africa are interesting not only for their great contribution to the artistic and cultural history of their continent, but also for their involvement in key questions regarding African isues of immigration, climate change,  water and food, health, and gender equality, among others.

Aqui Africa’s objective is to bring Africa to the attention of the Brazilian public through the eyes of its contemporary artists from different generations. In Africa, more than any where else, art is a language that relates visual arts to music, dance, cinema, etc. and becomes one of the strongest vehicles to understanding the main issues of the continent. Aqui Africa assembles a unique proposal of contemporary African art including painting, sculpture, photography and installations,
