Hales Gallery is pleased to announce Basil Beattie's inclusion in The Drawing Process, a group exhibition at Quay Arts, Isle of White. The exhibition will feature two works by Beattie: Untitled Drawing 1, 1990‒91, and That Irresistible Climb 4, 2001.
An outstanding collection of drawings, prints and paintings from Southampton City Art Gallery comes to Quay Arts for The Drawing Process this autumn. The collection, donated by the late Philip Schlee (1924-2011) comprises over 40 works by artists working in Britain between 1920 and 2004, including Frank Auerbach, David Hockney, Elisabeth Frink, Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland, Gillian Ayres Basil Beattie.
The collection was conceived with a very practical question, ‘what role does drawing play in the work of artists?’ and intended as a resource for practitioners, students and artists, to help develop their thinking about, and uses of drawing.
