Hales Gallery is pleased to announce Stuart Brisley's inclusion in a new exhibition at the Teatr Studio in Warsaw. From the Archives of Studio Gallery presents material relating to the history of the gallery and runs from May 14th to June 12th 2016.
The exhibition recalls Stuart Brisley's unique performance Moments of Decision/Indecision which took place in the gallery space in the summer of 1975. The performance was open to the public and lasted six days; during this time Brisley made continuous attempts to climb the wall, fight with the space, cover his naked body in paint and mark the walls and the floor with the traces of his bodily gestures. The act was documented by photographer Leslie Halam and was widely discussed as a radical intervention into the space of the Palace of Culture and Science.
Different versions of the photographic documentation of the performance at Teatr studio are part of the Tate Modern collection, London and the ERSTE Foundation, Vienna. From the Archives of Studio Gallery will include all 67 photographs from several days of the event.
