Hales is delighted to announce the inclusion of Richard Slee in the two person exhibition Problem Pieces at Musée Ariana, Genève.
Richard Slee and Robert Dawson take an eccentric look at the world. They have long drawn their inspiration from the history of ceramics and decorative art, without ever resorting to nostalgia or aestheticism.
Though their ceramic expressions differ considerably - Slee proposes composite objects with bright and shiny surfaces, whereas Dawson explores the texture of raw clay on canvas - both artists constantly question everyday life, challenging the commonplace and shaking up conventions. They have long drawn their inspiration from the history of ceramics and decorative art, without ever resorting to either nostalgia or aestheticism. While the two artists share a focus on subverting found motifs and/or objects, their critical artistic discourse takes them in contrasting directions, each filled with humour.
