The Frances Lehman Loeb Center at Vassar College acquires work by Andrea Geyer

Hales is excited to announce the acquisition of Constellations (Zora Neale Hurston after Carl Van Vechten) by The Frances Lehman Loeb Center at Vassar College. The museum purchased this work with funds provided by the Advisory Council for Photography and Betsy Mudge Wilson, class of 1956, and the Memorial Fund in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Africana Studies Program.

Constellations (2018) is a series of works which form Geyer's most recent contribution to her continuously relevant project. Here, reimagined portraits depict some of the influential women who held salons - informal social gatherings that brought individuals of diverse social classes together to exchange ideas, strategies and resources - in the US, Europe and beyond, significantly impacting the culture and politics of their time.

This work is currently on view in What Now? (Or Not Yet) at The Frances Lehman Loeb Center through 10 September 2023.
