Anthony Cudahy | Conversation | Museum of Fine Arts, Dole

Hales is delighted to announce Anthony Cudahy's first solo institutional exhibition, Conversation at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole in the Jura region of France.

 

Conversation includes several new works made on the occasion of the museum invitation. Cudahy was asked to respond to work within the collection and found resonating images, all of them unattributed pieces spanning centuries of art-making. The show is organized by thematic rooms and is supplemented by loaned older works of Cudahy's that also exist in this conversation.

 

Cudahy is a painter whose tender scenes reveal the nuanced complexities of life. In masterful compositions he combines symbolism and narrative devices to create a world for unspoken stories, intimate moments and romantic gesture. Cudahy 'quotes' from art history, employing visual motif which in turn becomes part of his lexicon and own symbolic shorthand. When looking to art history, Cudahy is drawn to works that have multiple readings.
