The Corridor Foundation acquires work by Laetitia Yhap

Hales is delighted to announce that Laetitia Yhap's Boy Tossing Water Over His Rowboat has been acquired by the Corridor Foundation, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China.

Yhap is best known for intricate paintings of fishermen on the beaches of Hastings, UK, created on unusually shaped panels individually hand-made by Yhap for each work. Born in England during the Second World War, Yhap has Austrian and Chinese heritage, which, according to her, throughout her life created a feeling that she didn't belong. Finding solace in art making and, later, in the Hastings fishing community, she has forged a unique and important voice within British art history.

Boy Tossing Water Over His Rowboat
(1981-1984) shows a fisherman's sons playing with a rowboat. A flock of seagulls surrounds the young men and people in the background are swimming. The boy is throwing water to stop the timber from drying out. Depicting a summer past time, the painting is joyful and relaxed, which is echoed in the smiling shape of its frame.
