Hales is delighted to announce the virtual launch of Carolee Schneeman's recent reprinting of Parts of a Body House Book.
Join Erin Zona, Artistic Director of Women’s Studio Workshop, in conversation with Rachel Churner, Director of the Carolee Schneemann Foundation and Kenneth White, Assistant Professor of Film Studies in the Cinema Department at the State University of New York at Binghamton. This event will center Carolee’s beloved eighteenth century farmhouse in New Paltz, NY with a focus on WSW’s recent reprinting of Carolee’s artist’s book Parts of a Body House Book, originally published by Beau Geste Press in 1972. This is a virtual book release and will include a discussion of Carolee’s personal archives as they relate to the book, as well as a mini-tour on the grounds of Carolee’s home.
This reprinting is a facsimile of Carolee’s personal copy from the first edition, and her intentions were to paint the back cover of each book and create a new set of hand interventions for the present day. This book includes the first publishing of an excerpt from Schneemann’s Sexual Parameters Chart, Americana I Ching Apple Pie, film positives from two of Carolee’s films, notes and sketches on Kinetic Painting, a very special menstrual-blood-blotted paper work, and more. This publication was in production at the time of her death in 2019, and all hand interventions including stamping, staining, and drawing, were recreated to the artist’s exact wishes.
The discussion will take place via zoom on Thursday 13 August, 9:00pm BST.
